The Sprint Zagato is the ultimate sporting development of Alfa Romeo’s legendary Giulietta. Two series of Sprint Zagato were produced between 1957 and 1962. In the hands of private racers, the SZ won a series of impressive races, oftentimes outperforming cars of greater engine capacity. In collaboration with the Servizio Esperienze Speciale (test department), Carrozzeria Zagato, and the results of aerodynamic studies by Kamm, the SZ II or “Coda Tronca” was born.

Little more than 200 SZ were built, the last of which were 44 “Coda Tronca” versions such as our example.

Our SZ “Coda Tronca” was delivered new on March 1st 1962 in Lugano Switzerland. The first owner used the car sporadically for hill climb races from 1962 till 1965 driving for the famous “Ecurie La Meute – Genève”.

In 1967 the car was sold to the second owner and remained in Switzerland till the end of 2002 when it was bought by the current Belgian owner, a real Alfa Romeo appassionato.

It is hard to find a highly original example like ours because most of the cars were modified and extensively raced.
